Once Upon a Time - Episode 3.14 - Title Revealed

View image on Twitter

Spoilers!!!!

I think I remember a reference to my fave Disney princess, Jasmine, showing up on either Once Upon a Time or Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. But with so much Jafar and Agrabah in Wonderland, I can’t help but wonder if we’ll see Aladdin on either show. –Audrey
Not sure where you saw said “reference,” but delete that bookmark, pronto. Presented with the idea of Jasmine or Aladdin showing up on either Once series any time soon, EP Eddy Kitsis assured me, “That is not true.” So don’t pack your bags for Vancouver just yet, Azita and Sendhil!

Would you know what the Wicked Witch’s name is on Once Upon a Time? There’s some speculation that it’s Elphaba (from the Wicked musical) while others think it’s Theodora (from the Disney-owned Oz, The Great and Powerful). Also, It seems that all the major villains in the show so far are related to Henry. Will the Wicked Witch be related to him as well? –Natalie
As a matter of fact, I address both those questions, my pretty, in the upcoming installment of Spoiler Alert!, posting Saturday.

George: In desperate need of OUAT scoop, especially anything on the spin they'll be putting on The Wizard of Oz!

Pack your bags 'cause we're hitting the yellow brick road. Sources tell us the show is actually going to Oz. Producers are in the process of figuring out what they can and can't use, based on what comes from the books, the movie or the Broadway musical. Most of what we see will be taken from the books, like the flying monkeys!

Question: Belle is one of my favorites on Once Upon A Time and I’m really disappointed in how little we’ve seen of her in the first half of Season 3. Please tell me she’ll have a bigger role in the second half! Will she at least have her own -centric episode? —Tara
Ausiello: I’m going to venture yes on getting a new Belle flashback, seeing as for Episode 15 the show is casting an “uppity,” “know-it-all” servant who must, repeat must, have a French accent. The character also is named “Lawrence,” which, I must observe, starts with the same letter as “Lumiere.”

Question: Two Once Upon a Time questions, pretty please! Rumple can’t really be dead, right? And is the Wicked Witch really the Black Fairy? –Ashley
Ausiello: Second things first: Sources say it’s unlikely that Rebecca Mader’s iconic villainess is also the Black Fairy who got name-checked in the midseason finale. As for Rumplestiltskin’s fate, I’ll remind you of what the Once creators told us a few weeks back, as they measured their words carefully. “To the Rumbellers out there, we hope that you enjoy what we have in store. In the second half of the season, they are going to be in the same world for an extended period of time,” Adam Horowitz said. Eddy Kitsis then added, “The second half of the season will further explore their relationship – in whatever state that is.” Sounds alive-ish to me, right…?

Once Upon a Time: Rebecca Mader Is Playing The Wicked Witch of the West! See the Incredible First Photos

Once Upon a Time
Holy flying monkeys! How amazing does Rebecca Mader look as the Wicked Witch of the West on ABC's Once Upon a Time!?!

We were first to reveal that Lost's Rebecca Mader would be joining ABC's smash drama to play the newest villain going up against Storybrooke's forces of good—and now we can finally spill details on her role as The Wizard of Oz's  Wicked Witch of the West, a k a Elphaba!

Check out these first look pics of Mader in the iconic role, looking positively terrifying, and fabulous, atop her broomstick. So many chills. Can we call her Elphabulous?!! No, of course we can't.

Immediately following Sunday night's spell-binding midseason finale, Once Upon a Time gave fans a sneak peek at all the magic and mayhem that's coming up in the second half of season three. Including, of course, the introduction of the show's new big, bad, villain: The Wicked Witch. We are told that THE WWOW (you're welcome for another terrible nickname) will square off against Regina, forming a new, formidable opponent to the Evil Queen, now that she and Rumple have made amends.

Once Upon a Time
While many fans were speculating the new villain might be Cruella du Ville (which, granted, would also be pretty fantastic), Once has decided to dip into the rich world of The Wizard of Oz, and it remains to be seen if other Oz characters will pop up further down the line. (Can we put in a plug now for Kristin Chenoweth as Glenda?) And don't forget, show creators Adam Horowitz and Eddie Kitsis love to put their own spin on well-known characters, so we certainly can't assume that Elphaba is just as we've seen her in the Oz books, the movie or the Broadway sensation Wicked.

Once Upon a Time
Fellow Once Upon a Time star, Robbie Kay (Pan), tells us he is thrilled that Mader will be joining the cast as Elphaba in episode 13.

"It's certainly an exciting prospect for the show, so it will be interesting to see how they put a twist on [her character]," Kay told E! News. "To be honest, it would be fantastic for them to sort of delve into that whole Wizard of Oz land and to see whether they can implement more characters into the story." Fingers crossed we'll be seeing Dorothy and her little dog, too!

Once Upon a Time will return with new episodes on...March 9 on ABC. Anyone else feel like you might be mellllltttiiinnnnng in a sea of anticipation until then?

Spoiler Chat:Once

AHS: Coven, Once Upon a Time, Hart of Dixie, Glee
Miles: Are we going to see any changes in Pan's relationship with Rumple in the next episode of Once Upon a Time?
Funny you should ask! We just got off the phone with the TV's most evil 17-year-old, Robbie Kay, and he tells us that we will definitely see some father/son shifts in this Sunday's brand-new episode. "You are going to see a change in the relationship in the mid-season finale. So they will touch upon that and it will be very interesting to see where they go from there in terms of their relationship as the season progresses." Hmm, perhaps this means that Pan will be sticking around after the winter hiatus? We're currently crossing our fingers and toes and hoping for a yes!

Once Upon a Time EPs Tease Midseason Finale's 'Devastating' Twist, 'Compelling' Spring Story Arc

Once Upon a Time Fall Finale SpoilersThis Sunday at 8/7c, ABC’s Once Upon a Time conjures its midseason finale — as in the last episode you will see until March 9, as a result of the ambitous new split-season scheduling. As such, the stakes and the drama are especially high.

When last we tuned in, Emma, Regina et al discovered that Peter Pan had A) swapped bodies with kindly Henry, B) used his shadow to dispatch with the Blue Fairy and C) pinched the Dark Curse Regina used years ago to power down the Enchanted Forest and transplant its denizens to Storybrooke, Maine, sans memories.

If the puckish lad casts the curse anew, Rumplestiltskin has noted, there would be no way to undo it, seeing as the “true love” loophole would not be woven into it. That’d leave everyone stuck in time unaware of their true selves, with Pan to lord over them in this “new Neverland.”
Having failed in his original scheme — to steal the heart of the truest believer (aka Henry) — “Pan has regrouped and come up with a Plan B that is probably even more devastating and intense,” series cocreator Adam Horowitz tells TVLine. “It’s going to test all of our heroes to see if and how they can stop him, and at what cost.”

Because even though Pan is playing in a brand-new sandbox far from the Neverland realm, his particular brand of evil levels the playing field — and then some. Notes cocreator Eddy Kitsis, “We learn very quickly that he is a villain unlike any we’ve faced, and there is no ‘home field advantage’ for us.”

Whether the Storybrooke heroes can somehow thwart Pan’s plan and save their sleepy burg, the show bosses aren’t saying. But as the Neverland arc’s final hour unfolds, you can count on closure on assorted fronts.

“The midseason finale is meant to tie up all of the arcs and loose ends from the first half of this season, while also endeavoring to carry over the story into what we are hoping is a compelling new mode of storytelling in the second half,” says Horowitz. Adds Kitsis: ”By the end of Episode 11, most of the loose ends are tied up. Like, ‘Does Tink get her wings back?’ — all these questions will be answered. It will feel very much like a season finale, and we are very much setting up what will be a season premiere in March.”
As for what that second “non-stop” run of 11 episodes will look like, Horowitz previously told TVLine that it won’t be a deep-dive into a new realm a la Neverland, but instead a narrative that is primarily focused, Season 1-style, on Storybrooke and The Enchanted Forest. “It’s a different kind of story,” he says, “that is a direct outgrowth from the climax of the winter finale and the fallout that comes from it.”

Although the split-season scheduling — which ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and (to a lesser degree) Revenge are also trying out this year — is something the Once creators desired, did it come with cons as well as pros? Did crafting a midseason cliffhanger that must bridge a 12-week (!) hiatus bring with it an extra-heavy burden? “It does,” Kitsis allows, “but as writers, it frees you up, because you’re not trying to stretch one story through 22 episodes. You’re not coming back in the middle [of the season] trying to dance until you can ramp up for the end.”

So as the midseason finale comes to a climax, viewers can count on new questions to be raised and the threat of a new-yet-familiar evil — an iconic, yet-to-be-identified villainess played by Lost‘s Rebecca Mader — to be introduced (via a new promo following the episode). Hopefully, it’s all tantalizing enough to reel people back in come March 9.

“We have some intriguing surprises in the season finale,” Horowitz teases. “We’ve obviously been building to this all season, with the mindset of using it as a launching pad for the second half of the season. We hope the audience digs in and sticks with us!”

Question...

I thought they reported a while ago that they were casting a boy to play the part of Rufio??? Whatever happens to that? Did we see him and I just missed him? Or did Hook say (in a previous episode) that he killed him????

Once Upon a Time Exclusive: Find Out Who Will Let Down Her Hair as Rapunzel

Once Upon a Time Cast Rapunzel Alexandra MetzThings will get a bit hairy on Once Upon a Time when the ABC drama introduces its take on Rapunzel.
And filling the iconic role, TVLine has learned exclusively, will be ill-fated Originals witch Alexandra Metz.

Metz will make her debut in the 14th episode of Season 3 — aka soon into the second half, which premieres March 9 — and though nothing at this time is confirmed, there is always the option for additional future appearances.

News of Rapunzel’s arrival was first teased in my Inside Line column; props to commenter Nichole for correctly guessing the role being cast. She wins 250 TVLine Power User Points, which have no cash value.

In addition to her short arc as The Originals‘ Katie, Metz’s TV credits include Chicago Fire and episodes of The Good Wife and Gossip Girl.
Once airs Sundays at 8/7c, with its fall finale scheduled for Dec. 15.

Ask Ausiello: Once Spoiler

Question: Can you offer up any clues on the location/setting for the second half of Once Upon a Time Season 3 (premiering March 9)? Will it take place entirely in Storybrooke, or will there be trips to another never-before-seen world? — abz
Ausiello: Better than clues, we have cold, hard facts. More akin to Season 1′s storytelling, “The second half [of Season 3] will take place between Storybrooke and the Enchanted Forest,” series cocreator Eddy Kitsis told Matt Mitovich. In other words, EP Adam Horowitz underscored, “It’s not a ‘journey to another land’ paradigm” à la the Neverland arc concluding Dec. 15. “We always have the ability and the desire to dip into other lands, which it’s more than likely we shall do,” Horowitz added, “but it will be in the way that we’ve done it in the past, as opposed to locking all of our characters onto a boat and sending them [to a new realm].”
